This morning I sat down to design my business cards. I’m not a graphic designer by any means, only a novice – but I’m also an artist and a visionary and I have a very specific idea of how I want my branding to look.
The original design was sleek and bold, and conceptually it was about the rectangular nature of the ubiquitous photograph. One good look at it this morning and I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to really put out there – printed on a business card. There is something magical about anything digital or conceptual becoming physical, which means there should be some level of perfection to it. (Yes, I’ll admit to being a perfectionist – and sometimes my perfectionism is the cause of my procrastination).
I managed to keep the basic simplicity of the original design, which is what I most loved about it, but I gave it some new energy and motion. The stacked frames are reminiscent of the bellows of a camera. The zigzag edges give this monochromatic graphic some interest and depth. I’m quite happy with the change. It’s giving me some energy to blaze this trail once and for all!
